When Rachel Schofield became a new mum in her 30s, she found that many of her friends were also starting families. And so began the round of baby gifts: Rachel received them, she bought them for friends and she soon realised that something was missing.

Admittedly we have never had more consumer freedom than we do today, and it's impossible to walk down the high-street, open a newspaper or switch on the TV without being deluged with gift ideas. However, quantity isn't the same as quality and finding the best can take a little longer.

As a working mum, Rachel knew all too well that busy people often don't have the time to scour the high street for that perfect gift set for a friend. Thank goodness for the internet, then again, buying products online can be so clinical. Surely there was a way to combine the personal touch of hands-on shopping with the speed and simplicity of the web?
